Sweet Memory

My dear friend,

Today (15 November 2007) I come to a formal gathering according to my work of publishing the national airlines magazine. The audiences were important persons in airlines business and Indonesian government…they made a declaration of flight safety…whereas in that special meeting (called as the round table meeting)…CEO (president director) from 47 national airlines in Indonesia (scheduled, charter and cargo operators) signed the Declaration of Enhancing Aviation Safety in Indonesia…witnessed by the Minister of Transportation and Secretary General of Air Transportation and National Team of Transportation Safety…so in the coming years we hope that Indonesia airlines will be more safe and reliable , also will be able to fly again to Europe soon…

Well, I met there colleagues from the mass medias and some from the government transportation office (public relations)…but the most funny, when I was took pictures of the CEO when they signed the declaration…they was so excited to be shot by me, some CEO made special smile for my camera…ha ha ha man could not refuse to see woman ! ….because others who took pictures mostly are man...journalists (photograph) and TV crews…well, a little aggressive will give a little advantage for my work….

Herewith, I attached also the news of Kompas Cyber Media about that event…sorry its in Indonesia language…will post later from the English version newspaper…

47 Maskapai Janji Tingkatkan Manajemen Keselamatan

Laporan Wartawan Persda, Hendra Gunawan

Hey, I wonder whether Garuda still exist for France-Indonesia flight.
I am here between the government officials from the Department of Transportation...on the left is Head of Law of Air Transportation and on the right is Head of Media in Department of Transportation...Well now, the airlines industry become better than last year...the price still normal and not influenced so much with the increase of petrole because the competition still tight...you can imagine for the scheduled airlines there are around 20 airlines compete in domestic routes...About Garuda still banned by the Uni European to fly to Europe until this moment...however, they plan to fly again in the end of this year by opening again flight to Amsterdam and may be Paris too because they will use also the Airbus (a little political reason here).....

It is good that the airlines have publicly made a committment to improve safety. This will do much to make the beauty of Indonesia accessible to more visitors. I am proud that you are part of this.

Good morning Ming, thanks for your nice comment...well, the government officials always said that Indonesian airlines must learn from the Singapore airlines, who always achieve the best airlines..but we realize that our condition is different with your country...such as the big number of airlines operates in Indonesia...you can imagine how difficult to manage them...but I think the government now already concern very much with this situation especially in related with the safety and services...hope one day, Indonesian people can be proud with its own airlines...wish you all the success and have a great day too....GBU

the funny image, i think can symbolize of the big number of Indonesian airlines operate now...

It is never easy managing a large and diverse country. Indonesia is afterall the fourth largest country in the world with great diversity. Singapore can fit comfortably into Lake Toba with lots of space to spare, and hence much easier to manage. What is important is that collectively we can make ASEAN an integrated region, with all its diversity and beauty.

With 47 different Indonesia airlines serving the 17.000 islands seems a little too much. When some of them merge, they may have a better economy of scale and can improve safety and lower the price at the same time. When I used the Garuda flight from Amsterdam to Jakarta some years back, I did not feel unsafe. I wish that they get approval soon again from the EU to get this line back in operation.

Thanks for your really nice comment and great attention Dick...well, according to the airlines business condition recently, some expert and government officials also recommended to merge some airlines...but that process always not easy...such as Garuda and Merpati, long times ago..that already a plan to merge it...but until now, its could not be realize....Indonesia too complex with problems and interests...

Garuda until this moment still the reliable airlines in Indonesia especially for the customer fly without consider the price but service and comfortable...they still use Garuda...and also according to the national survay proven that Garuda still the safety airlines in Indonesia...The EU travel banned may be not related with Garuda unsafe airlines but most airlines in Indonesia and also some political reason, such as Indonesia's airlines mostly operate Boeing and few Airbus which notabene european product....this month , the Indonesian government officials will participate in a special meeting in Brussel whereas they will decided when Indonesia's airlines able to fly again to Europe...but Garuda Indonesia already optimist that they will allow to fly again in this end of year and the first destination is Amsterdam...hope you can fly again with Garuda one day...

I like the optimistic view of Garuda Janine. If they make it by the end of this year, I'll not be on that first plane from Amsterdam but maybe in a year or two.

Nice to know about your plan to come to Indonesia by using the Indonesian flag carrier, Garuda...thanks Dick for still trusting Garuda and using its services. I am happy you as a foreigner like to use my national airlines because some time people so proud with other international airlines which more reliable. Well Indonesian government still have to work hard with the EU about that travel banned...on the other side, i just read in news that EU donated Indonesia in certain sector which mostly provided by your country the Netherlands. In airlines case, the government face the problem with officials of EU which not come from your country. Garuda announced that plan of opening again their services in Europe because since years ago they have not been operated there and now I think just a political reason to give attention to EU. Thanks your reply and hope you have a nice weekend...
